An asset is something you own. A job is what you need your money to accomplish. Those are different questions.

Preserve asks what helps you withstand disruption. Produce asks what can provide sustainable economic output. Grow asks what can increase future economic capacity. Position asks what keeps you ready to act when circumstances change.

These are thinking tools, not four equal allocations. An asset can serve more than one job, and the appropriate balance depends on your existing commitments, liquidity needs and tolerance for loss.

Before allocating capital, write down its purpose, when you might need it and what could prevent it from doing that job. Seek suitable professional advice before making material commitments.
